
Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Cardiac Arrhythmias in Heart Disease and Aging
A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Rose in the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, located in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Our laboratory is investigating mechanisms and novel therapeutic approaches for cardiac remodeling and cardiac arrhythmias in hypertension, heart failure, and aging. Our experimental approaches span from the cellular and molecular levels to the organ and organism levels. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a dynamic, well equipped, multidisciplinary laboratory and will receive highly personalized training, mentorship and career development opportunities while pursing novel areas of study. Our laboratory is part of a supportive scientific environment with extensive resources and strong expertise in the study of cardiovascular function and disease.
Projects are available in the following areas:
· The role of atrial remodeling in atrial fibrillation and sinoatrial node dysfunction in hypertensive heart disease.
· The impacts of frailty on aging-dependent atrial fibrillation and sinoatrial node disease.
Job expectations:

· Design experiments using a range of experimental techniques
· Running experiments and analyzing data
· Maintaining detailed records of experimental work and analysis
· Writing experimental reports and manuscripts
· Routine reporting on progress and results to Dr. Rose and the team
· Communicating results at meetings, conferences, lab meetings, etc.
· Providing support and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students
Qualifications:
· PhD or equivalent degree
· Experience in cardiac electrophysiology and molecular biology techniques or willingness to learn these techniques
· Experience/willingness to work with animal models of disease
· Enthusiasm and motivation to lead a project and to work as a member of a team
· Strong organizational skills
· Effective communication skills

Application details:
Funding for this position is available for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary will be based on experience. The terms and conditions of employment are covered under the University of Calgary and PDAC Collective Agreement.
