
PhD Student Position
Cardiac Arrhythmias in Heart Disease and Aging
A PhD graduate student position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Rose in the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, located in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Our laboratory is investigating mechanisms and novel therapeutic approaches for cardiac remodeling and cardiac arrhythmias in hypertension, heart failure, and aging. Our experimental approaches span from the cellular and molecular levels to the organ and organism levels. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a dynamic, well equipped, multidisciplinary laboratory and will receive highly personalized training, mentorship and career development opportunities while pursing novel areas of study. Our laboratory is part of a supportive scientific environment with extensive resources and strong expertise in the study of cardiovascular function and disease.
Opportunities are available immediately for a PhD student with a strong desire to learn and conduct studies using electrophysiological and molecular techniques for the investigation of mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias in heart disease and aging.
​Qualifications:
· MSc or equivalent degree
· Experience in electrophysiology or molecular biology techniques or a willingness to learn these techniques
· Experience or willingness to work with animal models of disease
· Commitment to lead a project and work as a member of a team
· Strong organization skills
· Effective communication skills
